Positions Available

Shelter Medicator/Cat Care Staff:

Responsibilities:
1)   Administer medications to shelter cats per the Medical Coordinator's directions. (The Medical Coordinator is the main point of contact with the Veterinarians that oversee the health of the shelter cats.)
2)   Assist at onsite vet visits once or twice a month, to "hold" cats while the vet does the examination.
3)   Maintain Medication Log Book and record what medications were administered, including any observations made while medicating.
4)   Inform Medical Coordinator when we are low on any medication, supplies or special diet foods or when there is a problem with any piece of equipment.
5)   Act as first line responsible for noticing problems with cats and alerting Medical Coordinator immediately of any serious situations.
6)   Sign in and out at each visit and record amount of time spent each day.
7)   May be asked to help train or mentor newer medicators/cat care staff.
8)   Number of hours and days can be tailored to individual's schedule. Opportunities for 1 - 5 days a week, once or twice a day, are available.

Lead Shelter Medicator:

Responsibilities:
1)   Train new medicators/cat care staff.
2)   Maintain medicators/techs schedules, including vacations and subs.
3)   Alert Medical Coordinator, Health Care Advisor(s) and/or Board Members of situations that need immediate attention.
4)   Submits initial list of cats for Vet Visit, also flagging Weight Checks, Ringworm Checks, URI Rechecks, VAX & Chips.
5)   Inform Medical Coordinator of which cats need to be seen at vet clinic when care is needed prior to next onsite vet visit (including why they should be seen and the timeframe within which they need to be seen).
6)   Maintain and manage inventory and ordering. Track medications, prescription foods, supplies and equipment. Provides list of upcoming medication needs to Medical Coordinator.
7)   Participates in onsite Vet Visits. Responsible for translating Vet's recommendations into new or updated entries in medication book; for both visits to vet and onsite visits.
8)   Responsible for keeping Medication book current and getting medical records filed and pulled for cats going to the vet or onsite vet visits.
9)   Perfom weight checks and ringworm checks between onsite vet visits and report results. Follow-up concerns can be addressed at next onsite visit, as well as official "cleared of ringworm" confirmations can be performed at next Vet Visit.
